张仪（张铮饰）作为秦国丞相，前来楚国是为了破坏东方六国的团结，倡导“连横”政策，以便秦国能够各个击破其他国家。虽然楚王（李清饰）听从了屈原（鲍方饰）的劝告，拒绝了张仪，但张仪却转而与南后郑袖（朱虹饰）合作，企图除掉屈原这一政治障碍。南后郑袖是个阴险狡诈的女人，她指使上官大夫靳尚加害屈原，并亲自出面陷害他。她故意在楚王进宫时假装头晕，扑倒在屈原怀里，并诬告屈原调戏她。楚王被激怒，罢免了屈原的官职。在南后的努力下，楚王接受了张仪的“连横”计划，与东方各国绝交，张仪因此成为楚国的座上宾。 在一次外出时，屈原遇到了南后和张仪，南后对他进行了戏弄。屈原感到愤怒和悲伤，公开斥责南后和张仪。楚王下令将屈原关进东皇太一庙。太卜郑詹收到女儿南后的密令，要将屈原毒死。屈原的侍女婵娟前来探望他，屈原不知酒中有毒，将毒酒送给婵娟。婵娟饮下毒酒后身亡，但为了替屈原受罪...。Greece, in the 1920's, is occupied by the Turks. The country is in turmoil with entire villages uprooted. The site of the movie is a Greek village that conducts a passion play each year. The leading citizens of the town, under the auspices of the Patriarch, choose those that will play the parts in the Passion. A stuttering shepherd is chosen to play Jesus. The town butcher (who wanted to be Jesus) is chosen as Judas. The town prostitute is chosen as Mary Magdalene. The rest of the disciples are also chosen. As the movie unfolds, the Passion Play becomes a reality. A group of villagers, uprooted by the war and impoverished, arrive at the village led by their priest.
